The Church Point Bears play host to the Northwest Raiders on Thursday, to kickoff week 9 of the 2016 high school football season.

The District 3-5A contest will be the only game in the Acadiana area on Thursday evening, and will be a prelude to a number of big match-ups on Friday.

Northwest is still unbeaten, at 8-0, overall, and 3-0 in district play.

The Raiders have been an offensive juggernaut all season, scoring 40 or more points in 7 of their 8 games, while allowing only 8.0 points-per-game.

Other than in their win over Eunice, in which they won 14-7, Northwest has won every game by at least 38 points.

The Raiders are obviously very good, but there is still a small question mark about them, due to their schedule, one in which they have played two 2A schools, and two 1A schools.

It should also be pointed out that nobody on Northwest's schedule currently has a winning record.

Church Point will enter the tilt at 2-6, overall.

The Bears have played much better in District 5-3A play however, sporting a 2-1 mark, despite a 21-14 setback to Eunice last week.

Over their last three games, all district affairs, Church Point has only allowed 34 points, for an average of 11.3 points-per-game allowed.

Going back to the Bears' 7-point loss to Eunice, Northwest beat that same Bobcat team by only seven points, which may indicate we could see a closer game than what many are expecting tonight.

Again, the Northwest/Church Point games begin the ninth week, and arguably best week of high school football action in Acadiana, with a host of big games tomorrow night.

In District 3-5A, Comeaux will try to clinch a winning record as they play host to New Iberia, while Lafayette High plays host to Sam Houston.

In District 3-4A, Crowley will visit Leesville, while Rayne plays host to Washington Marion.

In District 5-3A, Eunice is on the road to take on Port Barre, while Pine Prairie hosts Ville Platte.

In District 4-3A, Iota will entertain St. Louis, while Jennings travels to face Westlake.

In District 5-2A, Catholic High (New Iberia) is on the road to tangle with Sacred Heart Ville Platte), Delcambre will travel to West St. Mary, Notre Dame entertains Jeanerette, and Loreauville hosts Opelousas Catholic.
