A 24-year-old Church Point man is dead after a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop I spokesperson Brooks David, Joshua Jenkins was driving his vehicle west on La. Hwy. 358 when, for unknown reasons, he drove off the road and into a ditch. His car struck an embankment, which caused his car to flip over.

David said Jenkins was not wearing his seat belt, and he was ejected from the car. Jenkins suffered severe injuries, and he was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police don't know if alcohol played a factor in the crash, but a routine toxicology sample was taken and sent to the state police crime lab for analysis, David said.

The crash remains under investigation.
