Louisiana State Police Troop I says a three vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 95 north of Interstate 10 claimed the life of a Eunice man.

Just before 7:30 last night, troopers say 28-year-old Gerardo Robles of Church Point was driving his truck behind 58-year-old Mary Dupuis' SUV.  State Troopers are still trying to figure out why Robles hit Dupuis' car from behind.  After hitting Dupuis' car, his truck then crossed the center line and hit another car driven by 63-year-old George Fisher of Eunice, head-on.

Fisher died at the scene, and one of the passengers in his car, 61-year-old Calvin Cheeks of Church Point was taken to the hospital.  Cheeks is in critical condition.  The other passenger in Fisher's car, 70-year-old Scottie Fisher of Eunice, has moderate injuries. Troopers are working to figure out if the people in Fisher's car were wearing seat belts.

Robles, who was not wearing a seat belt, is in critical condition at an area hospital.  A passenger in his truck, 48-year-old Santos Zavala of Lafayette, was also not wearing a seat belt and is in the hospital recovering from moderate injuries.

Troopers say they believe Robles was impaired at the time of the crash.  He was charged with vehicular homicide, 6 counts of vehicular negligent injury, no seat belt, no driver's license and reckless operation.  Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Acadia Parish jail.
