The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office has started a collection drive to help out senior citizens in the parish.

Officials with the Sheriff's Office say that the Council on Aging Director Beverly Domengeaux reports that the reality for many senior citizens is that they can't afford the basics when it comes to cleaning.

Items that will be collected and given to the St. Mary Parish Council on Aging include:

  • Dish Soap
  • Laundry Detergent
  • All purpose cleaners
  • Window Cleaner
  • Bleach
  • Trash Bags
  • Paper Towels
  • Mops
  • Brooms
  • Dust Pans
  • Toilet Brushes
  • Disinfectant Spray
  • Floor Cleaner
  • Bathroom Cleaner
  • Kitchen Cleaner
  • Dist Towels

There are two ways that you can drop off the items that you are donating. You can give the donated items to any St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputy or you can drop them off at either of two locations of the Sheriff's Office.

The two locations of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office are the office in Franklin which is on the 4th floor of the St. Mary Parish Courthouse or at the Morgan City office which is located at 1455 Railroad Avenue.

Once all of the supplies are collected, they will be taken to the St. Mary Parish Council on Aging's office, and they will distribute the items.

The deadline to donate items is December 20, 2017.
