NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Coast Guard says a helicopter crew brought a crew member who reportedly had been stabbed on a cargo ship hundreds of miles offshore to land for treatment.

A Coast Guard news release says the Yusho Regulus was 230 miles from the Mississippi River when it reported Friday that a crew member had been stabbed.

The Coast Guard did not identify the person and said it did not know his or her condition.

The statement says the helicopter crew brought the injured person to the Joint Naval Reserve Base in Belle Chasse, and an ambulance took him or her to West Jefferson Medical Center.

Online vessel trackers indicate that the Yusho Regulus is flagged in Panama and had stopped in Spain and Portugal before heading to the United States.
