College Football National Championship Nets Low Ratings
The 2019 College Football National Championship Game pitted two rivals against each other with plenty of intrigue but apparently more people than ever before weren't buying into the intrigue.
The game drew a 14.6 overnight rating for ESPN which was rated across the multitude of channels and digital platforms it could be viewed. This was the lowest rated Championship Game over its five-year existence. Last season, the National Championship Game received a 16.7 overnight rating, just for comparison purposes.
Alright, I get it. This match-up isn't something new, meaning that we've seen these two teams meet each other in the college football playoff for the past four years and the third time they've met in the Championship Game.
It does surprise me that this game didn't get more viewership, I was thoroughly intrigued by how this game would play out. Now, once the game got into the second half and you could tell that Alabama wasn't able to hang with Clemson I can understand how viewers would tune out. The game was lopsided, it was late, it's a Monday night, I understand that part.
I will say, it was fun watching the true freshman quarterback, Trevor Lawrence and wide receivers Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins make big plays.
Alabama is a factory and Clemson is a family.
