Colombian National Sentenced To 36 Months For Illegally Re-Entering US
United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced that a Colombian national was sentenced Monday to 36 months in prison for re-entering the country after having been previously deported. Luis Mesa-Quinones, 39, of Colombia, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik on one count of illegal re-entry after being deported. According to evidence presented at the March 25, 2015 guilty plea, the defendant was arrested on April 7, 2014 in Iberia Parish for driving while intoxicated, failure to yield, driving without a license and vehicular negligent injury. After further investigation, he was found to have been previously deported in May of 1998 after being arrested in Harris County Texas for delivering between 4 and 200 grams of cocaine.
