Congressman Bill Cassidy joined 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' today and discussed the controversy surrounding the NSA and the IRS.

The President recently said,

If you are a U.S. person the NSA cannot listen to your phone calls, cannot target your e-mails and have not.

Addressing that statement Congressman Cassidy said,

So this is the guy that said if we pass this healthcare law you keep your insurance, there is no individual mandate and your premiums will go down $2,500 per family.

According to Congressman Cassidy,

I talked to Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner last night who is the Congressman that wrote section 215 which is under question (in the NSA controversy) and he says they've taken it so far beyond the original intent.  The original stated 'this is how far you shall go, not further'.  They've taken it so far beyond that whatever the President says...they've already greatly exceeded what they are allowed to do.

Congressman Cassidy went on to say,

The issue is, they are claiming that they have foiled a dozen or so attacks on our soil and numerous attacks abroad but they won't tell us what they are and won't release details.

Congressman Cassidy went on to say,

I think after the IRS scandal where a supposedly apolitical organization was misusing tax-payer provided data to frankly steer elections in one direction, which I find so incredibly frightening.  Whatever party you are, it should concern you that a supposedly apolitical organization of the federal government with great power is using that power to influence elections.
