Congressman Jeff Landry Returns Office Money To Pay Down Debt
Congressman Jeff Landry calling on Congress to pay down the national debt--somewhat creatively.
Landry, along with a group of seven freshman members, is calling on Speaker John Boehner to return nearly $1.5-million in unused office funds and use that money to pay down the debt.
Landry says his office is returning about $160,000 or about 11% of his office budget.
"We came to Washington promising to reduce red tape and eliminate Washington accounting gimmicks," the group says in a letter to Boehner.
The group says they hope more members will follow suit and that this move "represents a stark contrast to President Obama's continued efforts to increase federal spending."
The national debt is estimated to be above $15.3-trillion.
