Congressman Jeff Landry joined 'Mornings With Ken & Bernie' today and explained his efforts to prevent the Obama Administration from mandating that Catholic institutions provide contraceptives.  Landry said he was asking other members of Congress to join him in filing an Amicus Brief that will accompany suits filed by 42 Bishops that are suing the Administration on the HHS mandate that requires institutions to provide contraceptives, abortion or sterilization.

Landry said,

"When Louisiana was acquired in 1803 the French Ursiline Sisters wrote to Thomas Jefferson asking that their corporal works of mercy would not be infringed upon by the government.   Jefferson replied that the principles of the Constitution and the government were a sure guarantee that their institution would be protected and they would be able to govern themselves free from any government involvement."

Landry said the government seems to pick and choose when it wants people to exercise their religious freedom.  In a post 9/11 world the government has made efforts to accommodate people's beliefs during TSA searches.
