Louisiana GOP Rep. Vance McAllister says he's failed his family and let down his district by kissing a married female aide, but he says he'll serve out the remainder of his term.

In a statement released Monday, McAllister apologized for conduct he called a "personal failure," and said he's spent the Easter recess reconciling with his wife and children.

Gov. Bobby Jindal and other Republicans in the state welcomed the news he wouldn't be on the November ballot.

A security tape released this month showed McAllister kissing Melissa Peacock, an aide and family friend. McAllister apologized and Peacock resigned.

A businessman with no political experience, McAllister won a special election in November in part by putting his family and faith at the center of his campaign.
