Monroe newspaper The News-Star is reporting that embattled Congressman Vance McAllister will not seek another term in office.

Video of the Congressman kissing a woman other than his wife surfaced several weeks ago.

The fifth district Congressman has said while he will no seek re-election in the fall, he does plan on completing his current term in office.

McAllister was quoted as saying earlier that, "There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."

Governor Bobby Jindal had called for McAllister's resignation.

Republican Party of Louisiana Chairman Roger Villere had this to say:

“While I would have liked to see Rep. McAllister close this chapter
sooner, I was happy to hear of his decision to do what is best for his
family and his constituents. Now that this situation is behind us, I
am confident that voters in the 5th District will choose a strong
conservative candidate in November.”
