BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) — Plaquemine Parish authorities say a Belle Chasse man has been arrested for failing to register as a sex offender after he moved to a new apartment next to a day care operation.

The Plaquemine Parish Sherriff's Office said Saturday that detectives do not believe the man was targeting children at the day care, but the business and parents were notified of the arrest.

Spokesman Eric Becnel said 25-year-old Dustin Ryan Thibodeaux was on probation after an August conviction for indecent behavior with a juvenile and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Last month Thibodeaux moved from Port Sulphur to Belle Chasse. He failed to register as a sex offender, leading to Thursday's arrest. He was jailed with bond set at $25,000. It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
