Lafayette Police

Corporal Paul Mouton joined "Mornings With Ken & Bernie" today to talk about a gathering Lafayette Police held yesterday to discuss the growing problem of copper thefts.

Mouton tells KPEL that area law enforcement talked informally about solutions to help them locate copper thieves, and retrieve property.  He says there have been at least 30 copper thefts in Lafayette this year.  In one case, a charity went into their office on a Monday morning, and the temperature inside was warm.  They called an air conditioning repair man only to be told they no longer had a unit for them to repair.  Theives had taken the unit to sell the copper at a scrap metal facility.

Mouton says they also had local businesses represented at their meeting yesterday to talk about what company's might be able to due with security to help customers prevent theft, or help police track down thieves.
