Today Judge Richard Haik sentenced 54 year old Johnson Augustus Powell of Huntsville, Alabama to 24 months in prison and three years of supervised release for copyright infringement. In addition Powell was ordered to pay $7,500 restitution to the Motion Picture Association of America.

Powell was stopped by Calcasieu Parish authorities for a routine traffic violation on Interstate 10 in August of 2011. His vehicle was searched and officers discovered 1,463 counterfeit DVD movies and 1,225 counterfeit music CD's. In January of 2012 Powell was stopped again in Calcasieu Parish with more counterfeit DVD's and CD's. Then in April of 2012 Powell was stopped again on I-10 with another load of counterfeit DVD's and CD's.
