Shreveport City Councilwoman LeVette Fuller talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the shooting and death of Officer Chateri Payne.

Fuller, who was sworn in as a council member less than a month ago, tells KEEL listeners that she learned of the shooting, as did most, via social media, then headed to the crime scene to offer support to the family and police.

"It was a very emotional experience," says Fuller, "But you steel yourself quickly. I don't have rose-colored glasses on about the state of our community right now."

Fuller adds that while she is praying for the deceased officer and her family, " But I'll tell you this. This community has to do more than pray and think. We have to figure out a way to live together, to deal with mental illness, to deal with violent crime."

Hear Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty weekday mornings from 6 til 9 on 101.7 / 710 KEEL, or by downloading the free KEEL app, presented by Office Furniture Source.
