NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Tulane University's president has been appointed to a White House council looking at how to solve community problems.

The White House announced Tuesday that Scott Cowen will serve on the White House Council for Community Solutions.

The White House says the council is being set up to find ways citizens, nonprofits, businesses and government can work together to solve community problems.

Cowen says lessons learned in the wake of Hurricane Katrina can be applied to other cities.
