59-year-old Bradford J. Verret of Jeanerette has died in a two-truck crash that happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon on Martin Ridge Road north of LA Hwy 87 in St. Mary Parish.

La. State Police Spokesperson Trooper Jared Sandifer says Verret was driving his Dodge Ram westbound on Martin Ridge Road in St. Mary Parish, when for unknown reasons, his Dodge crossed the centerline and hit a boat trailer being pulled by 36-year-old Ron Boutte of New Iberia. Trooper Sandifer says Verret's truck then went into a ditch, and despite wearing a seatbelt, he suffered fatal injuries. Boutte was also wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

Police say they don't expect impairment was a factor.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road, and always obey all traffic control devices.
