Update – Teenage Girl Dies In Weekend Crash In Calcasieu Parish

Tuesday, April 24: Sgt. James Anderson with Louisiana State Police says at 10:05 p.m. on Monday night, 13-year-old Dalensia Rose of Lake Charles died at a local hospital.

Monday, April 23, 2012: Last night, police responded to an accident on the bridge of highway 171. The accident involved a van that was stopped on the bridge with a flat tire and a car.

The van, driven by Leyla Austin of Lake Charles, was parked on the bridge while her passenger, Vincent Austin was outside of the vehicle attempting to change the tire. The car, driven by Megan Schexnider, collided with the parked van while Vincent Austin was still at the back attempting to remove the spare tire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lelya Austin was wearing her seat belt and received moderate injuries and another passenger of her vehicle, a 13 year-old girl, was also seriously injured.

Schexnider was wearing her seat belt as well and was moderately injured. All of the injured were transported to local hospitals.

Toxicology tests are still awaiting result and the crash remains under investigation.
