Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson says around 5 a.m. Friday morning someone called police after noticing the suspect pulling on car door handles on Fairway Drive. Chief Gibson says 49-year-old Robert Handy of Crowley was arrested on Governor Edwards Drive doing the same thing. He says they have been looking for Handy for awhile in connection with numerous car burglaries and a picture that was released earlier this week taken from a home video system in the 1200 block of South Ave F.

Handy has an extensive record going back to 1992 for burglary and theft.

Handy has been charged with 4 counts of burglary of vehicles, 1 count of attempted burglary, resisting arrest and misrepresentation during booking. He has also been charged with aggravated burglary as well as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Handy also has outstanding warrants from the 15th Judicial District Court and Lafayette Parish.
