On July 1, Crowley Police Department Chief K.P. Gibson will assume the reigns of the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Department as their new Sheriff.

Gibson was elected to the post last year after winning 55 percent of the vote in the October 24 primary election over challengers Keith Latiola and Brian Richard.

Gibson recently completed his training through the Louisiana Sheriff's Assocation.

The weeklong training is put on by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Institute for all incoming Sherrifs in the state.

The purpose of the Institute's training is to make incoming officials more trained in the following areas:

  • Management of the Sheriff's Department as a whole
  • Review of requirements of the office of Sheriff
  • Overal Operations of the Sheriff's Department

Sheriff's in Louisiana take office on July 1 which is the start of a new fiscal year.
