A Crowley man is now in the Calcasieu Parish Jail after he allegedly stole a police car from the Mermentau Police Department.

Mark Kraus with the Lake Charles Police Department said officers responded Sunday afternoon after it was reported a police car was stolen within the city limits.

State police was already in pursuit of the vehicle when Lake Charles police arrived at the scene.

The car was eventually stopped on Interstate 10, and the driver, 38-year-old Russel Shane Darbone of Crowley was arrested.

He was booked into jail on a charge of possession of stolen things.
