Day Three Of Lafayette, La. Regional Set At Lamson Park

The Lafayette, La. NCAA Softball Regional enters its third and possible final day of play on Sunday, with at least two full games on the schedule, and the completion of another.

There's also a possibility that a champion won't even be crowned on Sunday, as rain played havoc with the schedule on Saturday.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team, the #13-overall national seed, and the top-seed in the tournament, defeated the Baylor Bears, 3-1, on Saturday, to move into the finals.

Louisiana will be looking to advance to a Super Regional for the fourth-consecutive year, including the fifth time in the last six years.

Who they'll play is still a mystery.

The Mississippi St. Bulldogs were leading the Weber St. Wildcats, 1-0, in the fourth inning of an elimination game, when play was suspended on Saturday night, due to rain.

That game will resume at noon, with the winner advancing to take on Baylor at approximately 2 o'clock.

The winner of that game will then face Louisiana in the finals at 6 o'clock.

Things are still a little bit up in the air however, as normal NCAA rules stipulate that a team cannot play three full games in one day, although that could change in this event.

So, if the Cajuns lose in the first game of the finals at 6 o'clock, the "if necessary" game may have to be played on Monday, although that is very much unofficial.

What we do know is that Mississippi St./Weber, although St. will resume at noon, with the winner taking on Baylor, with Louisiana awaiting the survivor in the finals.

Saturday: 3:30 pm—Game 3—Louisiana 3   Baylor 1

Saturday: 6 pm—Game 4—Mississippi St. 1  Weber St. 0 (Game suspended, to be resumed on Sunday at noon)

Sunday 2 pm (estimated) —Game 5—Baylor  vs. Winner Game 4

Sunday: 6 pm—Game 6—Louisiana  vs. Winner Game 5

TBA—Game 7—Winner Game 6  vs. Loser Game 6  (if necessary)
