Dead Boy’s Mother Pleads Not Guilty In Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 32-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the June beating death of her 8-year-old son, Xzayvion Riley.

The Advocate reports Lavaughn Riley entered her plea Wednesday before state District Judge Don Johnson.

The boy's father, 46-year-old Michael Anthony Robertson, also appeared in Johnson's courtroom, but his arraignment on a first-degree murder charge was delayed until Aug. 27.

Robertson and Riley were indicted last week by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury and are being held without bail.

District Attorney Hillar Moore has said his office has not decided whether to seek the death penalty against Robertson and Riley.
