LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A Denham Springs man has been sentenced in federal court to more than two years of prison on charges of attempting to obtain child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley said Monday that 37-year-old Brad Maruschak was chatting with whom he believed was a 14-year-old girl. The girl was actually an undercover state police officer in Lafayette, Finley said.

Maruschak communicated with the "girl" from April to August, engaging her in a series of sexually graphic messages, Finley said. At one point, he asked the girl for pictures, Finley said.

Maruschak was sentenced Monday to 30 months in prison and will be required to complete five years of supervised release, Finley said.
