Denham Springs Woman Accused Of Trying To Kill Cellmate

GRETNA, La. (AP) — A 23-year-old Denham Springs woman is accused of beating her cellmate after she failed at her initial attempt to smother the woman.

The Advocate reports Chasity Griffin was re-booked Wednesday with simple battery by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office after the incident in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

According to an arrest report, Griffin’s cellmate awoke to find a blanket wrapped around her face, and Griffin trying to smother her.

The woman said when she began to fight back, Griffin started punching and kicking her. Correctional officers managed to separate the two women without incident.

No information was included on the cause of the fight.
