The state's Veterans Affairs Secretary says he's grateful on this Memorial Day that the state House has restored $833,000 that was originally cut from his budget. Lane Carson says the cuts would have shut down the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal Program and other
activities. The House Appropriations committee cut the Department of Veterans Affairs by nearly a million dollars. But the cuts were restored with an amendment that was approved on the House Floor. Carson says he's thankful the money for military veterans programs was restored. Carson says if the money was not restored, they would be forced to close nearly two dozen veterans services offices and veterans ceremonies in north and central Louisiana.
