A local eight-year-old and a sheriff's deputy got more than they bargained for when they were both bitten by a dog.

Deputies tell us they were dispatched to the Youngsville home after it was reported the eight-year-old had been bitten by a boxer he was playing with.

As the responding deputy searched for the dog, he was bitten from behind on the forearm. The deputy shot at the dog in defense, striking it in the leg and causing it to run away.

The deputy and the child are both okay, and there's no word on whether the same dog bit both of them.

Two of the other dogs the child was playing with has been taken by Animal Control. One of them had evidently been hit by a car near the scene.

The dog who bit them has not been found.

Police say charges against the owner are possible.
