MANSFIELD, La. (AP) — A newly renovated and restored building in Mansfield will provide DeSoto Parish with a new venue for private and public gatherings.

The first event is set for Saturday at the Clista A. Calhoun Center, more commonly known in the area as the Mansfield Female College Lyceum.

Saturday's event will include food and music.

The Times of Shreveport reports that the cost to renovate the two-story structure, parts of which are more than 90 years old, was more than $1.2 million. DeSoto Parish provided $500,000 and that was matched by Marcia and Riemer Calhoun Jr., whose family donated the property in 2002.

Mansfield officials pitched in $5,000 and helped with construction-related needs.

The building sits behind the state-owned Mansfield Female College Museum.
