DJ Sanders Making Run At SBC Triple Crown

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun shortstop DJ Sanders is making a Sun Belt Conference Triple Crown run.

Entering play on Wednesday, Sanders, a junior from Columbus, Mississippi, Sanders has 23 homes runs and 60 runs batted in (she hit another home run and drove in three more runs on Wednesday night), which leads the league in both categories, while sitting second in batting average, at a .391.

A first-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick a season ago, Sanders is well on pace to hit approximately 30 homers, to go along with about 80 RBI’s.

She also leads the league in slugging percentage, runs scored, and total bases.

Sanders’ teammate, Haley Hayden, is having a fine senior season with Louisiana, ranking third  in the conference with a .390 batting average, to go along with 40 RBI’s, which ranks tied for third..

Coastal Carolina’s Taty Forbes leads the league in hitting, at a .405, while Sanders, Hayden, and Kassidy Zeringue (.382) rank second, third, and fourth, respectively.

In the pitching department, Texas St.’s Randi Rupp leads the conference in wins (20), ERA. (1.13), and strikeouts (216).

The Cajuns have two pretty good pitchers in their own right, as senior Alex Stewart and freshman Alyssa Denham have combined for a 28-5 record, to go along with a 1.92. ERA.

Offensively, as a team, Louisiana is hitting a .336, with 64 home runs, both of which leads the league.

Pitching-wise, the Cajuns currently sport an overall combined team ERA. of 1.92, which ranks second, behind Texas St. (1.52).

This weekend, Louisiana faces a Georgia St. team which ranks 2nd in the league in hitting (.297), and 6th in pitching (3.19 ERA.).
