Domestic Dispute Leads To St. Martin Parish Standoff

A Kaplan man faces criminal charges following a domestic dispute occurring in rural St. Martin Parish this morning.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Ginny Higgins reported deputies responding to a domestic disturbance found 39-year-old Jerry Ferguson in a vehicle at a residence next to his estranged wife's house in Catahoula. At one point during the incident, Ferguson exited the vehicle and entered his estranged wife's unoccupied home. While inside, Ferguson issued verbal threats deputies while refusing to leave the home. Three hours later, Ferguson left the home and was arrested.

Ferguson was arrested on the following charges:

• Unauthorized Entry of Inhabited Dwelling
• Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault
• Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer with a Firearm
