Legalizing marijuana is an on-going debate but we have more to worry about when it comes to drugs.

Four drug companies are working on a new pain killer that will  contain the highly addictive hydrocodone, packing up to 10 times the amount of the drug as existing medications such as Vicodin.

What scares me is the fact that American uses 90% of the hydrocodone produced worldwide!  There is no way we have 90% of the world's pain so why do we use 90% of this powerful painkiller?  Addicts use opiates such as hydrocodone and Vicodin because of the intense feeling of well-being generated by the drug.  In most cases the addict does not have any pain but wants the high associated with the drug.  Addicts discovered if the drug were crushed they could defeat the "time release" mechanism built in and increase the strength of the "high" and make it more immediate.
I think it's time we start aggressively policing the use of these painkillers and the people who prescribe and use them illegally.
