The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is getting ready for National Work Zone Awareness Week, which starts up Monday.

Deidra Druilhet, spokesperson for the department, said the agency will take time to focus on the importance of work zone safety practices as well as safe driving through these work and construction zones.

"Sometimes you can have reduced speed limits, you can have construction trucks that are coming in from the side pulling out into the interstate, and then also sometimes the lanes can be narrowed going through a construction zone," Druilhet said.

This year's them: Expect the Unexpected.

Druilhet said to pay attention for reduced speed limits and for work crews in these construction zones and to always be prepared.
