St. Landry Parish high school dropout rates dropped dramatically between the 2009-10 school year and the 2010-11 school year.

In 2010-11, only 3 percent of students dropped out, down from 6.7 percent in 2009-10. That represents a more than 50 percent decrease in the dropout rate.

According to data released by the state Department of Education last week, St. Landry Parish has the fifth most improved dropout rate in the state.

Statewide, 4.9 percent of high schoolers dropped out in the 2010-11 school year.
