Drug testing of welfare recipients has been a hot topic during this legislative session as State Representative John Labruzzo authored a bill again for this session that would provide for 20 percent of cash recipients to be randomly tested for illegal drugs.

Lt. Craig Stansbury with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office tells KPEL that there are a variety of ways that an average call for assistance can lead to the recovery of drugs and charges for individuals.

Stansbury says the world of drugs is changing on a rotating basis, and the only thing that he can tell parents for certain, is that they must remind their kids to stay away from drugs.
