The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, along with Louisiana State Police, will be conducting a DWI checkpoint this weekend.

The sobriety checkpoint will be set up at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish. It will begin Friday night at 10:00 p.m. and end Saturday morning at 4:00 a.m.

Louisiana State Police Colonel Micheal Edmonson says "our mission will be to find and remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others."

Last year in our state, police say 43 percent of fatal crashes were alcohol related.  Troopers are asking drivers to remember to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed.

To report impaired drivers, drivers are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
