Friday, June 12, there will be a seat belt compliance and DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish. The event will happen from 9:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m.

State Police are conducting the event. Troopers say, of the vehicle occupants who died in crashes in Louisiana last year, 58 percent of them were not wearing a seat belt.

"Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash," says spokesman Sgt. James Anderson.

Troopers remind you that Louisiana law states that EVERYONE inside a vehicle must be properly restrained.

You're also reminded to remember to designate a sober driver if alcohol is involved in your day. You can dial *LSP (*577) to report any impaired drivers.
