Early voting continues today and tomorrow at the Lafayette Parish Registrar of Voters Office at 1010 Lafayette Street.

There are two property tax issues on the ballot.

The first tax measure is a 4.17 mill property tax renewal for 10 years. The revenue from that tax is used for improving and maintaining roads along with bridges in Lafayette Parish.

The second tax measure would take two existing millages, put them into one, and it would generate about 6 and 1/2 million dollars a year that would be spent on mosquito control, animal control and public health.

Currently, there is a 2.06 millage for public health and a 1.5 millage for mosquito control, but if voters approve the combining of the two then the total $ 6.65 million would be available for all those issues.

City-Parish President Joey Durel says approval of the combined tax would allow Lafayette Consolidated Government to return funds to other municipalities in the parish that pay LCG for animal control services.
