BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend and then abducting her.

The sheriff's office says 33-year-old Norman Gibson, also known as J.R., is in custody and the woman he took is OK. The sheriff's office confirmed the arrest to WBRZ-TV shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Investigators say Gibson showed up at the boyfriend's home Friday around 1 p.m. and shot him in the chest, then fled — with the woman — in a black Dodge Challenger with Florida plates. Deputies say Gibson is living in Zachary, but also has family in Irwinville.

The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
