Elderly Breaux Bridge Woman Dead After Friday Afternoon Crash

An 88-year-old Breaux Bridge woman was killed following a crash on an Interstate 10 overpass just north of Breaux Bridge.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop I spokesperson Trpr. Stephen Hammons, Maryetta Wyche was driving her vehicle north on Hwy. 31 at the same time 73-year-old Ray Patin of Breaux Bridge was approaching in his vehicle from the other direction.

"As the two vehicles were crossing the I-10 overpass on La. 31, Wyche crossed the centerline and struck Patin head-on," Hammons said.

Wyche was wearing a seat belt, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, Hammons said. Patin was taken to a local hospital where he was being treated for moderate injuries, Hammons said.

The crash remains under investigation.
