The end may be near for government-mandated security fees collected from downtown bars in Lafayette.

The City-Parish council will vote on the repeal next Tuesday after a number of bars quit paying the fee and began considering legal action. The fee, ranging from 150 dollars to five-thousand dollars a month depending on the size of the bar, was imposed to offset the overtime costs of a police detail working weekend bar crowds.
