EUNICE, La. (KPEL) -- A Eunice man has been arrested for the second time in less than a year after the initial charges against him were dismissed by the district attorney's office.

Deputy Chief Varden Guillory with the Eunice Police Department says Dexter Freeman was arrested in September of last year for selling crack cocaine. Guillory says the entire drug deal was recorded, witnesses to the transaction provided statements, and Freeman himself confessed to the crime.

In November, though, all charges against Freeman were dismissed by the district attorney's office.

"It was found that the charges had been dismissed before the paperwork on the case had been submitted to the district attorney's office," Guillory says.

The DA's office said dismissing the charges was an error on their part, and they said police had the right to arrest Freeman again on the same charges.

Guillory says Freeman was arrested on new drug charges stemming from incidents in May of this year.
