EUNICE, La. (KPEL) — A contract employee has been arrested on allegations he took his company’s truck without permission and that he stole several thousand dollars worth of equipment from the back of the truck.

Deputy Chief Varden Guillory with the Eunice Police Department says the supervisor and several contract workers were staying at a local motel. When they were heading out to work, the supervisor noticed one of the trucks was missing, as well as one of his employees.

Two hours later, police saw the missing truck being driven back into the Eunice city limits. Michael Word, the missing employee, was behind the wheel. A search of the truck revealed more than $5,000 of missing equipment, Guillory says.

Word was booked into the Eunice City Jail on felony theft charges. His bond has been set at $10,000.
