EUNICE, La. (KPEL) -- An 18-year-old Eunice woman was arrested after she allegedly stole cash out of the wallet of a mail carrier.

According to Deputy Chief Varden Guillory with the Eunice Police Department, the victim, who works for the United States Postal Service, was delivering mail. When he came back to his vehicle, he discovered the suspect, Regan Pousson, inside the truck with his wallet in her hands.

The victim checked his wallet and found his cash was gone. Pousson denied taking anything, but she threw a twenty dollar bill at him as she ran away. The victim flagged down a passing police officer, and based on the description he gave officers, Pousson was found and detained after being read her rights.

Pousson continued to deny any involvement until she was told she was in "big trouble for burglarizing a vehicle owned by the federal government," Guillory says.

Guillory says she confessed to the crime and then showed investigators where she had hidden the money. In all, Pousson stole $70, Guillory says, all of which was returned to the victim.

Pousson was booked into the Eunice City Jail on charges of simple burglary. Guillory says she was arrested on her 18th birthday.
