Evangeline Downs Racetrack has announced personnel changes and track improvements in anticipation of it's 50th year of racing. Michael Chamberlain will take over track announcer duties, Corey Veazey has been appointed racing secretary and Ramiro Flores is the new track superintendent.

Chamberlain, a New Jersey native has over 20 years experience including stints at Sam Houston Race Park and Turf Paradise.

Veazey is a Lafayette native with 10 years experience at Evangeline Downs as a placing judge and as assistant racing secretary.

Flores who joined Evangeline Downs during the past quarter horse season has 15 years experience in California where he mastered surfacing skills at tracks such as Del Mar, Pamona and Golden Gate Fields.

Since the end of the quarter horse meet Flores says they've incorporated 2,000 tons of fine sand with less than 2% clay content.

Of the track improvements famed Cajun jockey Eddie Delahoussaye said,

The improvements that are being made at this track really show just how much Boyd Gaming and Evangeline Downs care about their racing product.

This year's schedule includes the return of the $300,000 Evangeline Downs Turf Sprint on May 30th, Legends Night returns on July 4th, the D.S."Shine" Young on July 11th and the Evangeline Downs Star on August 29th.

Buffet price specials, cash prizes and other promotions will be debuted this season.

Post time for the beginning of the thoroughbred season will be 5:40pm on Wednesday, April 8. Racing will continue Wednesdays through Saturdays through August 29, 2015.
