Victory Garden
Corner of Olivier Street and Monroe Street, Lafayette, LA United States

Additional Information

Townfolk, a local non-profit community organization created by residents in the LaPlace Neighborhood, and Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority have partnered to celebrate the life of shooting victim Jillian Johnson through the inaugural Victory Festival, a benefit to help realize Johnson's vision of a community garden at the corner of Olivier and Monroe Street, on Sunday, September 27th from 5pm to 10pm.

The Victory Festival will take place one block from the future Victory Garden, adjacent to Gallery 333. The festival will begin at 5pm with a groundbreaking ceremony for the garden. Following this will be music by local singer songwriter Johanna Divine from 6pm to 7pm. Starting at 7:30pm, there will be a screening of Jillian's favorite film, Coal Miner's Daughter.

To help raise awareness and funding for the project, there will be merchandise for sale as well as a silent auction with donated items from area artisans inspired by Jillian.

Refreshments will be available including popcorn, the Taco Sisters' food truck, LA31 local craft beer and more.

Attendees are encouraged to bring cash and blankets or chairs for relaxing.

All proceeds will go towards helping Jillian's vision of a victory garden become a reality.

In addition, Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority will lease the property to Townfolk for $1 per year. Townfolk will use local crowd-funding website CivicSide.org to raise money from the community to complete the project.
