Ex-LSU Player Sentenced In Mortgage Fraud Case

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A former LSU football player who pleaded guilty in a mortgage fraud investigation has been sentenced to five years on probation.

The Times-Picayune reports that 47-year-old Robert Packnett was sentenced Thursday.

The prosecution stemmed from a New Orleans Office of the Inspector General probe into his company's contracts with the city. He was ordered to pay back the city $233,000 as part of a plea agreement he struck with prosecutors in June.

The charge stemmed from allegations that Packnett overstated his rental income on properties for which he sought mortgages and credit lines.

The New Orleans resident was an offensive lineman for LSU in the late 1980s.
