PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — A police ballistics expert says Oscar Pistorius' girlfriend was standing up in the bathroom when she was hit in the right hip by the first of four bullets fired by her boyfriend.

Capt. Christiaan Mangena, who testified at the Olympic runner's South African trial today, says Reeva Steenkamp then fell back onto a magazine holder before she was hit by the last two bullets fired by Pistorius through the wooden bathroom door, one in the arm and one in the head.

Mangena says the second bullet missed Steenkamp, but she was hit in the arm and head while crossing both hands over her head to protect herself. Mangena says one bullet went through Steenkamp's left hand before penetrating her skull. The policeman testified he couldn't determine the order of the last two shots.
