There will be a mandatory disaster drill at the Lafayette Regional Airport today, Friday, March 20.

The drill will start around 9 o'clock in the morning, and it will involve a disaster scenario of a collision between an ERJ-135 jet and an EC 153 helicopter.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires that Lafayette Regional have a disaster drill once very three years to test the emergency plan currently in place at the airport.

They drill is also designed to look for any areas where the plan may need improvement.

If you would like to watch the drill, there will be an area set aside at Gate 5 which is at the end of Tower Driver.  You must show up no later than 8:30 a.m. in order to watch mock collision event.

Anyone coming to the view the event can park at either the Lafayette Airport Commission office or in the grassy area to the right of the office.
