LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- The family of Mickey Shunick announced plans for a public celebration celebrating the murdered woman's life to be held Saturday in downtown Lafayette.

The free event will be held at Parc International between noon and 5 p.m. and will play host to many high-profile speakers, including City-Parish President Joey Durel.

Several area artists will also take the stage, and the event will conclude with a public bike ride which will follow the path Shunick took the night she was killed May 19.

The celebration will also feature an art wall at the park. If you would like to contribute your art for the wall, or if you would like to volunteer for the event, email celebratemikcey@gmail.com.

Food and beverages will be available to buy.

Following the event, the family asks that the public attend the football game between the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and the Florida International Golden Panthers at Cajun Field. The university will honor Shunick with a moment of silence during the pregame events. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
